Industry Overview

According to the China Iron and Steel Association, the annual carbon emissions of China's steel industry are 1.8 billion tons, accounting for approximately 15% of the total carbon emissions. In the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the steel industry will be included in the scope of performance of the national carbon emission market. As the price of carbon is increasing year over year, the cost of carbon reduction in steel facilities rise accordingly. Currently, China's steel industry still features a long process with high carbon emission intensity and crude steel production capacity accounts for approximately 90%. Therefore, under the strategic goals of “carbon peak and carbon neutrality”, the steel industry is faced with the challenge of capacity reduction and carbon emission intensity reduction.

Project Overview

As one of the top 100 companies in the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone, Tianjin New Tian Steel Cold Rolled Sheet Co., Ltd. has rapidly developed in recent years, resulting in increased demand for power consumption. Under the movement toward "carbon neutrality", it is imperative for companies to enable energy saving and emission reduction solutions. Goldwind provided the company with a customized zero-carbon solution that included an 8MW PV power generation project, deployed through 100,000 square-meters of rooftop PV modules connected to the grid through 10kV voltage. The project has been in operations since September 2021, and while reducing carbon emissions, the project has also generated significant economic benefits.
