Recently, Goldwind Yancheng Dafeng Experimental Wind Farm (hereinafter referred to as the "Dafeng Experimental Wind Farm") was fully connected to the grid. The project is equipped with five types of Goldwind wind turbines, including the GWH266-16.2MW and GWH191-7.15MW models. It is expected to deliver approximately 170 million kWh of stable electricity annually, sufficient to meet the yearly demand of more than 100,000 households. The project undertakes multiple experimental tasks such as testing large-capacity prototype turbines, validating new tower foundations and long flexible blades, and conducting a low-frequency power transmission pilot program in collaboration with the State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Research Institute. These initiatives further extend Jiangsu's wind power innovation chain.
In recent years, Goldwind has actively implemented the guiding principles of the CPC Central Committee on "promoting the integrated development of technological and industrial innovation". By advancing industry–academia–research collaboration, technology transfer, multi-level verification, and real-world deployment, the company has forged a new pathway from theoretical research to industrial application. The experimental wind farm provides a real operating environment for innovative technologies, serving as the "last mile" in verifying the reliability of wind power solutions. With a dual focus on demonstration of innovative wind power applications and experimental testing, the Dafeng Experimental Wind Farm will become a launchpad for pioneering achievements, bridging the gap from engineering verification to real-world application.
Low-frequency transmission technology offers clear advantages, including lower line impedance, reduced voltage drop and charging power, and higher cable current-carrying capacity. Its adoption significantly extends transmission distance and capacity while effectively reducing the cost of long-distance offshore wind power delivery. Goldwind, together with the State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Research Institute, has launched China's first 17Hz high-capacity AC application pilot at the Dafeng Experimental Wind Farm. By lowering transmission frequency, the system reduces reactance by 60% and substantially decreases transmission losses. The success of this trial will provide a model for long-distance wind power transmission. In terms of validating new tower foundations and long flexible blades, the Dafeng Experimental Wind Farm has pioneered a cross-verification program combining hybrid towers with ultra-large offshore turbines. Using Goldwind's next-gen offshore turbine, the GWH266-16.2MW intelligent prototype, the project tests the compatibility of hybrid towers with future models, evaluates the structural properties of long flexible blades, and verifies safe operational control, thereby meeting the more demanding clearance requirements of ultra-high hybrid towers. The data generated will also assist R&D teams in designing methodologies, strengthening digital twin capabilities, and safeguarding innovative wind technologies operating in uncharted territory. Meanwhile, the wind farm will conduct grid integration trials for the 16.2MW turbine, exploring the boundaries of large-capacity wind turbine applications.
For years, Goldwind has actively contributed to building Jiangsu's innovation chain, from establishing the industry's first national-local joint engineering laboratory, to a national innovation center, and then the Yancheng Advanced Technology Research Institute. In this hub of wind power innovation, Goldwind has created a series of technology transfer platforms that catalyzed the successful commissioning of the Dafeng Experimental Wind Farm, helping Jiangsu's wind industry establish a closed-loop system of "basic research – technology transfer – scenario verification".
Innovation in wind power requires connecting the "first mile" of basic research with the "last mile" of industrial application. Goldwind will continue to drive progress with technological innovation at its core, working hand in hand with governments, industry partners, universities, and research institutions to advance the establishment of a comprehensive validation system for China's wind industry. In doing so, Goldwind will contribute to the healthy growth of the sector and provide more "Goldwind solutions" for the global renewable energy transition.
