Recently, Goldwind successfully signed an agreement for the Saudi PIF5 Wind Power Project, under which the company will provide comprehensive lifecycle solutions from equipment supply to operation and maintenance for the 3GW project. With this milestone, Goldwind's global business footprint now extends across six continents and 48 countries.

Construction of the project is already underway. As the largest onshore wind power project currently under construction in the world, it is expected to generate 11.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually upon completion, equivalent to 2.4% of Saudi Arabia's total national power generation in 2024, and is projected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 9.3 million tons per year.

Goldwind Chairman Wu Gang Meets with ACWA Power Chairman Mohammad Abunayyan

Saudi Arabia, one of the world's largest oil producers and holders of proven reserves, has set an ambitious target under its Vision 2030, aiming to generate 50% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030. The launch of the 3GW wind power project in Saudi Arabia signifies that wind energy, with its continuously improving reliability and cost competitiveness, is becoming a trusted energy source for major oil-producing nations.

The PIF5 Wind Power Project is jointly developed by ACWA Power, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia, and Saudi Aramco. The EPC contractor consortium comprises CEEC Global, Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute, and Northwest Electric Power Design Institute. Located near Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, the project comprises the Shaqra 1GW Wind Power Project and the Starah 2GW Wind Power Project, which are scheduled to commence commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2027 and the first quarter of 2028, respectively.

Considering Saudi Arabia's year-round high temperatures and frequent sandstorms, Goldwind will supply its GWH204-10MW wind turbines for the project. These turbines combine high-performance power generation with excellent environmental adaptability, featuring enhanced sealing and other design optimizations to ensure efficient and reliable operation under extreme heat and strong sand conditions, thereby minimizing power generation losses.

Groundbreaking Ceremony of Goldwind's Saudi Arabia Hybrid Tower Precast Factory

Goldwind will also equip the project with its self-developed 148m steel-concrete hybrid towers, which effectively capture higher-altitude wind resources and enhance overall project power generation efficiency. To shorten transportation distances and improve hybrid tower delivery efficiency, Goldwind will also establish a local hybrid tower precast factory in Saudi Arabia. The factory aims to ensure high-quality, on-schedule project delivery while promoting localized production and contributing to the development of the local industrial supply chain.

This project signing marks an important step in Saudi Arabia's implementation of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). At present, Goldwind has already secured and installed large-scale wind power projects in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and other Gulf countries, contributing to the energy transition of major oil-producing nations.
